Job Summary

The Grant Accountant reports to the Assistant Controller and is responsible for providing accounting and financial support to ensure adequate internal controls and efficiency of procedures and processes within the Accounting department, specifically related to grant accounting and reporting across the Ministry. This position will ensure the accuracy of financial reporting and accounting for grants, including but not limited to the completion of the Schedule of Expenditures of Federal Awards (SEFA).


Duties & Responsibilities:

·         Collect and facilitate pertinent spend information to populate quarterly and annual SEFAs.

·         Review and approve grant concept forms for compliance with policy.

·         Review and approve grant applications for compliance with policy.

·         Conduct grant training specific to Market needs.

·         Assist with audits, specifically the annual Office of Management and Budget (OMB) Circular A-133, “Audits of Institutions of Higher Education and Other Non-Profit Organizations.”

·         Perform draws, ensuring specific grant compliance, against grant funds at the Market’s request.

·         Prepare Federal quarterly and annual reports following all grant compliance rules and regulations.

·         Ability to engage peers and unit operating managers where appropriate in gathering, reporting and explaining substance of business transactions as it relates to the analysis within their work plan.

·         Demonstrated proficiency in use of core financial systems including, but not limited to Hyperion (consolidation tool), general ledger, GL report writer and budgeting software.

·         Must be able to demonstrate active knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles in daily execution of accounting functions and tasks.

·         Provide back-up to other department staff, as needed.

·         All other job-related duties as assigned. 



·         3-5 years progressively responsible accounting experience

·         Must have exceptional analytical skills

·         Must be self-motivated, capable of taking initiative, successfully handle and prioritize multiple competing priorities, and effectively manage deadlines

·         Proven ability to work effectively in a team environment and have strong rapport with the executive team, colleagues, and subordinates

·         Must have previous grant accounting and reporting experience, including exposure to governmental laws and regulations related to federal programs and financial reporting for grants

·         Experience with Microsoft Office, especially Excel with graphics, PowerPoint and Word

·         Strong communication skills

·         Solid business acumen

·         Prior experience in Health Care/Managed Care or insurance industry preferred

·         CPA and/or MBA and/or HMFA certification preferred


·         BS/BA in Accounting or Finance, preferred


Full-time, 40 hours per week, days, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
