Job Summary

BASIC PURPOSEResponsible for the daily safe clinical application of ionizing radiation in treatment of cancer as well as overall patient care.  Maintains open communication. 


Assists in scheduling of treatment and simulations.

Assists in maintaining supplies and equipment in proper working order and reports discrepancies to the Manager.

Assists in maintaining a smooth patient flow process.

Demonstrates, through clinical interaction with adult and geriatric patients, knowledge of growth and development and patient and family educational needs.

  • Assists in patient education on side effects, nutrition, treatment    marks and overall health as related to treatments.

Practices recognized radiation safety measures for patient and personnel and reports and discrepancies to the manager.

Administers the prescribed daily treatments to adult and geriatric patients correctly and accurately.

  • Informs the Manager, physician(s), and physics staff of any discrepancies or errors occurring in the treatment area.

Participates in performance improvement efforts.

Takes port films/portal image, files them away, duplicates set ups, and identifies problems with port film utilizing knowledge to correct patient positions.

Participates in the simulation of patients on a rotational basis and completes the following duties:

  • Performs simulations and fabrication of treatment devices/digital MLC for adult and geriatric patients.
  • Takes polaroid / digital picture of the patient’s face and treatment area
  • Inserts digital images into Varis.
  • Insure prescription is signed and staging completed by physician
  • After the physician has explained the risks, benefits, and                             alternatives of the treatment, assure the consent to treat is signed by the patient.
  • Coordinate the initial treatment set up.
  • Ensure proper charging is done.
  • Do patient contour when physics is unavailable
  • Schedule patient for the first treatment and provide appointments for daily treatment
  • Enter treatment data into Varis.

Double check initial calculations and chart entry.


  • High School graduate or GED
  • Graduate of Radiation Therapy program
  • Licensed by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists in Radiation Therapy with Active Status in the American Registry of Radiologic
  • Technologists preferred at hire and required within 12 months of hire.

Hours: Monday-Friday 7:30am-4:30pm, on call required
