Job Summary
Summary
Under general supervision, assists the pharmacist to interpret physician's orders, select, assemble and place medications in association with a patient's name for both inpatient and outpatient services. Assures the accurate and timely distribution of medications, IV solutions, floor stock and controlled substances to patient care areas. Is responsible for accurate charge/credit functions for inpatients and outpatients, interacts with Medical Center Personnel, physicians and others via verbal and personal contact.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Technician I's will start at a lower pay rate at the entry level for the first 6-12 months. At this time they will be evaluated and either granted full pay rate, retrained or discharged.
The pharmacy technician I position is responsible for the accurate medication order interpretation, drug product selection and preparation of medications.
Pharmacy tech I's are required to: Interpret and fill physician's orders. Fill patient medication envelopes in an accurate and timely manner.
Process employee prescriptions for exposures according to procedure and applicable laws.
Restock and distribute floor stock items, automated dispensing system medications and controlled substances to all applicable areas.
Ability to repackage bulk medications into unit dose accurately and according to procedures.
Rotate stock and restock unit dose and IV room area
Maintain current patient status information concerning discharged, admitted and transferred patients utilizing computer data.
Technicians will participate in various departmental meetings and interdepartmental committees.
The technician must be familiar with SRMC drug policies and processes.
Any other duties as assigned.
Qualifications - Minimum
Education:
High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
The pharmacy technician must be able to perform basic math calculations related to drug product preparation. This will be assessed by a written math skills assessment tool when applying for this position. The pharmacy technician must also be able to prepare IV admixtures by reading labels and utilizing these math skills.
Required to complete and pass a state approved Certified Pharmacy Technician (C.Ph.T) licensure exam.
Hours
Hours per pay period: 40
Hours: 2:00pm to 10:30pm
Rotating weekends and holidays.
