Job Summary

BASIC PURPOSE:

The Diagnostic RN is a critical care registered nurse with current license in the State of Ohioand ACLScredentials and is responsible for the delivery and co-ordination of care provided to patients undergoing procedures within the Diagnostic Services areas.  The Diagnostic RN functions in a support role to the staff within Imaging Services departments.  The Diagnostic RN assesses and identifies patient needs and comfort, executes therapeutic physician/nurse initiated interventions, evaluates patient’s responses to procedures, notes patient progress and records patient outcomes, and provides patient/family education in accordance with standards of care.

SPECIFIC ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Clinical Practice

  • Prepares diagnostic areas for procedures
  • Assures equipment is functional and supplies available
  • Administers medications (including moderate sedation) in a safe manner, which is consistent with the organizations policies and procedures and the State of Ohio Nurse Practice Act
  • Verifies accurate and timely history, physical, and has knowledge and ability to document nursing activities in EMR
  • Assists with procedures (Special Radiographic Procedures, CT, Ultrasound, Echo, etc.) under the supervision of a radiologist, surgeon and/or cardiologist.
  • Co-ordinates the management of emergencies arising from procedural and clinical complications
  • Knowledgeable of applicable LMRP, ICD-9 codes, and corporate compliance, charge capture and denial management as it relates to procedures
  • Participates in on-call rotation for Special Procedures, CT, etc.  
  • Practices and promotes the standards of the National Patient Safety Goals

Professional Communication

  • Facilitates and provides educational support to staff of Diagnostic Imaging Services
  • Interacts positively with physicians and under direct supervision of multiple radiologists
  • Focused on Patient, Physician Satisfaction
  • Evaluates patient needs to provide comfort and reduces pain/anxiety to patients
  • Educates patients/families in disease prevention and treatment

Legal/Patient Rights

  • Knowledgeable of Patient Bill of Rights and Advanced Directives
  • Performs job responsibilities with the scope of nursing license and MHP Policies and Procedures
  • Assures informed consent has been completed prior to procedures

Teamwork

  • Assists Manager/Director with data collection for Performance Improvement
  • Initiates problem solving and teamwork with co-workers and demonstrates creativity and flexibility to changing work environment
  • Liaison between Diagnostic Imaging Services and other Nursing Units
  • Participates on Nursing Committees as appropriate

Professional Development

  • Demonstrates willingness to maintain clinical diagnostic and nursing  competencies and ACLS
  • Attends in-services, QA meetings, and departmental meetings

EDUCATION, SPECIALIZED AND/OR TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Graduate of an accredited Schoolof Nursing
  • Current licensure in the State of Ohio
  • Minimum of 3 years Critical Care Nursing experience
  • ACLS certification
  • Previous experience in Cardiac Cath Lab, Radiology Special Procedures, or Cardiac Stress Lab, where applicable

Weekend Call Rotation-- on-call every 4th weekend and a weekend with backup call.
