Public Benefits Manager

Summary: Manages the day to day functionality of the Eligibility Services department. Maintains thorough working knowledge of department policies & procedures to act as subject matter expert for business process questions. Maintains thorough working knowledge of relevant federal, state and county benefit program requirements and shares with staff as appropriate. Monitors individual and team productivity and work quality to identify improvement opportunities. Coaches or counsels staff, as needed. Insures proper staffing assignments to meet or exceed KPI levels with coverage, productivity and quality.


Day to day requirements:

  • Monitors staff & team work outcomes to insure productivity and quality standards are maintained. Identifies and communicates improvement opportunities.
  • Functions as a subject matter expert and staff resource for department policies & procedures, hospital system policies & procedures, and government benefits programs.
  • Assists the department Director with staff development and retention initiatives.
  • Oversees tracking of significant or targeted (high dollar or otherwise designated) Medicaid or Hospital Financial Assistance application inventory to insure proper disposition.
  • Oversees staff recruitment, on-boarding and subsequent on-going training functions.
  • Oversees staff time & attendance compliance.
  • Develops and maintains effective working relationship with government benefit case workers.
  • Works collaboratively with other revenue cycle departments and associates with a special emphasis on Case Management, Patient Access, Financial Counseling and Physician office staff.
  • Oversees staff work assignments to insure department KPI metrics are maintained.

Qualifications - Minimum

  • Required Minimum Education: High School Diploma or GED
  • Preferred Education: 4 yr/Bachelor Degree
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience interacting with patients regarding hospital financial issues. 
  • Healthcare public benefit eligibility experience preferred. 
  • CRCR preferred- must obtain within 90 days of employment. 


Full-time, 40 hours per week, days, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
