Job Summary


Assumes responsibility for the day-to-day operations of the Nutrition Services Department. Performs duties of food service worker in scheduling crisis. Assumes overall responsibility for operation of Nutrition Services Department in absence of Director of Nutrition Services and Manager of Clinical Nutrition Services. Ensures compliance with regulatory agencies and JCAHO. Performs all duties in a manner that reflect Catholic Healthcare Partners' Core Values, which are: Compassion, Excellence, Human Dignity, Justice, Sacredness of Life, and Service.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Supervises and assumes responsibility for the day-to-day operations of Nutrition Services Department; supervises and assumes responsibility for other areas of Nutrition Services Department in absence of other Nutrition Services Managers, Chef, and Supervisors; completes tasks, projects, planning, etc. for areas of responsibility. Assumes overall responsibility (along with Retail Foodservice Manager and Chef) for operation of Nutrition Services Department in absence of both the Director of Nutrition Services and the Manager of Clinical Nutrition Services.

Schedules Nutrition Services staff to provide adequate coverage; manages employee scheduling conflicts once the schedule has been posted.

Ensures that all tasks within the department are completed; personally assumes responsibility for (or delegates, as appropriate) covering tasks of non-replaced employees.

Communicates regularly with Director of Nutrition Services regarding department operations, employee issues, or anything affecting the department.

Counsels employees; offers praise and/or constructive criticism to employees as necessary; documents performance/counseling/other issues in employee's file.

Completes employee performance appraisals in a timely manner.

Interviews/recommends to Director of Nutrition Services potential candidates for employment; supervises orientation/training of new hires.

Conducts in-services and work area meetings regularly; conducts department meetings as directed by Director of Nutrition Services.

Writes/revises cafeteria/catering/patient menus; incorporates new and/or seasonal items on menus; monitors menus for acceptance and suggests menu revisions as needed.

Analyzes budget variances and key financial data (as appropriate to area of responsibility or to department as a whole) and recommends/implements cost control/reduction measures.

Ensures compliance with federal, state, other regulatory agencies, and JCAHO for nutrition care practices.

Conducts routine department inspections to ensure department is maintaining cleanliness standards and implements measures to correct deficiencies.

Writes, implements, and evaluates policies and procedures for area of responsibility, as changes in services or standards occur, or as directed by Director of Nutrition Services.


Other Duties and Responsibilities:

Assists Director of Nutrition Services in developing goals and objectives for Nutrition Services Department.

Takes initiative to see what needs to be done and takes action to see that it is accomplished.

Initiates and participates in Performance Improvement activities; suggests ideas, methods, and/or programs to improve the quality of the department/organization.

Assists in the care and maintenance of all department equipment; notifies Director of Nutrition Services of all equipment problems; initiates and follows through on maintenance work orders.

Plans and completes special projects as assigned by Director of Nutrition Services.

Works with educational facilities to provide learning opportunities for Dietetic students.

Demonstrates appropriate and cost effective use of department resources, supplies, equipment, and time.

Demonstrates work schedule flexibility.

Enhances professional development and knowledge by participating in pertinent seminars and meetings, reading current healthcare/foodservice publications, and networking with peers.

Maintains a courteous, cooperative attitude towards co-workers, management, patients, visitors, physicians; assists them whenever possible.

Attends mandatory Medical Center meetings, department meetings and in-services, and other programs, as appropriate; serves on committee’s/task teams as assigned.

Practices safety and security as defined in the Medical Center and department policies and procedures.

Maintains confidentiality of patient and employee information.

Performs all other duties as assigned.


Qualifications - Minimum


High school diploma or general education degree (GED); specialized training/education or experience in food service management preferred; three (3) years institutional or hospital food service experience preferred.


3-5 Year’s experience preferred


Certified Dietary Manager preferred.



Hours per pay period: 80

Hours: 8:00am to 4:00pm

Weekend rotation
