Job Summary

The Registered Nurse provides care within the scope of the Ohio/Kentucky Nurse Practice Act.  The Registered Nurse is accountable for the delivery of nursing care utilizing the nursing process, evidence-based standards, policies, procedures and guidelines of the organization.  The Registered Nurse will incorporate the American Nursing Association Code of Ethics for Nurses in daily practice.

 

Qualifications - Minimum

EDUCATION:

Required Minimum Education:

2 year Associates Degree

Specialty/Major: Nursing

 

Preferred Education:

4 year Bachelors Degree

Specialty/Major: BSN preferred.

 

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATIONS:

Required: Current unencumbered applicable state license required. Basic Life Support Certification required. All full-time and part-time incumbents must obtain ANCC Psychiatric Nursing Certification within 1 year of hire. PRN not required to carry certification.

 

Preferred: New Graduate Nurses must sit for certification exam within 3 years of hire.

 

EXPERIENCE:

Minimum of two year’s experience as a registered nurse in psychiatric acute care setting desired. Experience in working in a psychiatric setting highly preferred.

De-escalation training required within 90 days of hire.

Group treatment experience desired, but not required.

 

Qualifications - Minimum

Ability to differentiate between patient psychological symptoms that occur concurrently with altered physiological functioning.

Ability to assess patients with significant deficits in biological, emotional, cognitive and behavioral systems.

Able to read, analyze and interpret professional journals, technical procedures and understand governmental regulations.  Ability to write reports and use proper grammar when documenting.

Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patient, manual and finger dexterity, and eye-hand coordination.

Requires standing and walking for extended periods of time.

Frequently lifts and carries items weighing up to 100 pounds (with assistance). Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.

Requires working under stressful conditions and irregular hours.

Exposure to communicable diseases and/or body fluids.

 

Certificates License/ Registrations:  Current unencumbered applicable state license required. Basic Life Support Certification required.  Must obtain ANCC Psychiatric Nursing Certification with 1 year of hire.

 

Education and /or Experience:  Graduate of an approved Registered Nurse program.  BSN preferred.  Minimum of two years’ experience as a registered nurse in psychiatric acute care setting desired. Experience in working in a psychiatric setting highly preferred. Special physical requirements: sits and stands throughout the day. Physical management of patients in crisis situation may be necessary.

 

Key Job Responsibilities: (not all inclusive)

Assessment: The Registered Nurse shall:

 

Collect and record a nursing assessment of the health status of the behavioral health patient.

Collect and record objective and subjective data and communicate as appropriate to the other members of the healthcare team.

Modify the assessment as the patient’s condition/status changes.

Demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the lifespan.

 Analysis:  The Registered Nurse shall accurately and timely:

 

Analyze the assessment data and establish, accept or modify a nursing diagnosis to be used as a basis for nursing interventions.

 

 Planning:  The Registered Nurse shall accurately and timely

 

Develop, maintain or modify the nursing component of the plan of care and;

Communicate the nursing component of the plan of care and all modifications to the plan to all appropriate members of the treatment team.

 Implementation: The Registered Nurse will accurately and timely implement the nursing plan of care, which may include:

 

Executing the current treatment regimen as prescribed by the Physician, Physician Assistant or Certified Nurse Practitioner.

Providing direct nursing care commensurate with education, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the registered nurse.

Collaborating with other nurses and members of the treatment team.

Delegating nursing tasks as approved by the Ohio/Kentucky Board of Nursing.

Complete 15 minute safety checks on the units.

Evaluation: The Registered Nurse shall accurately and timely:

 

Evaluate the patient’s response to the nursing interventions.

Document and communicate the patient response to nursing interventions to the appropriate members of the healthcare team.

Other Skills and abilities:

 

The registered Nurse systematically enhances the quality and effectiveness of the nursing process.

 

Direct supervision of assigned personnel.

 

Facilitate group, nursing and psycho-educational. Co-facilitate process groups.

 

 Adheres to the standards and policies of the Corporate Responsibility Program, including the duty to comply with applicable laws and regulations, and reports to designated Manager (or employer hotline) any suspected unethical, fraudulent, or unlawful acts or policies.

 

Demonstrates ethical, sound professional practices and personal accountability.  Acts in alignment with the mission and core values of Catholic Health Partners.  

 

Holds others accountable to standards of performance.

 

Displays a curiosity and desire for knowledge and staying current with colleagues, be curious about business and the health care services industry.

Seeks and participates in learning opportunities that meet personal and departmental goals.
