Job Summary

This position provides care to cardiopulmonary impaired patients in the acute and outpatient settings of the hospital within the scope of their licensure. A Therapist 1 can work as a Floor or Critical Care Therapist.

Medical Gas Therapy: Oxygen Therapy will be set up delivered and charted as ordered by the physician with 98% accuracy. High Humidity Therapy will be set up delivered and charted as ordered by the physician with 98% accuracy.

Treatment Modalities: Aerosolized Medication Therapy will be set up delivered and charted as ordered by the physician with 98% accuracy; Metered Dose Inhalers will be set up delivered and charted as ordered by the physician with 98% accuracy; Hyperinflation Therapy such as EZpap, IPPB, and Incentive Spirometry will be set up delivered and charted as ordered by the physician with 98% accuracy; Chest Physical Therapy including the use of the Chest Vest will be set up delivered and charted as ordered by the physician with 98% accuracy; and Positive Expiratory Pressure Therapy including the Acapella / Flutter Valves will be set up delivered and charted as ordered by the physician with 98% accuracy.

 

Mechanical Ventilation in ICU: Therapist 1 may initiate, monitor, and maintain mechanical ventilation with appropriate orientation and competency check off. Follows and documents weaning protocol process. Performs transports of ventilator patients with 98% accuracy.

BiPap & CPAP Therapy: Therapist initiates, monitors, maintains, and documents positive airway pressure therapy as directed by the physician with 98% accuracy.

Patient / Family Education: Therapist will be able to help educate patients and families on topics such as: Disease management, smoking cessation and treatment modalities according to the AARC Clinical Practice Guidelines.Therapist 1 functions within Chapter 4761 of the State of Ohio Revised Code and the AARC Clinical Practice Guidelines.

Bronchoscopy Assistance: The therapist will be able to assist the physician with performing emergency bronchoscopes outside of the Endoscopy department. Set up, clean up, and documentation will follow department policy.

Emergency Care: The therapist 1 will be certified and follow American Heart standards for BLS & ACLS during all phases of medical emergencies within the hospital. Airway Management: Therapist will assist with endotracheal intubations as ordered; maintain and suction artificial airways; and extubate as directed by the physician.
