A Medical Technologist or Technician is trained and certified to perform specimen processing waived, moderately and highly complex analysis of body fluids and biological specimens to diagnose and treat disease. Utilizes independent judgment in performing both routine and complex laboratory tests using a variety of techniques, instrumentation, and equipment in order to assist the physician in the diagnosis and treatment of disease. Exercises professional judgment in order to prioritize and evaluate varying test requests efficiently.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Planning and Implementation: Assists in evaluation and selection of new methods and equipment as required.
Analysis and Problem Solving: Identifies problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting of results. Corrects problems or reports them immediately to a supervisor.
Communicates and Coordinates: Instructs, trains, or orients patients, students, new employees or peers according to established procedure. Responds to requests for special and unusual tests.
Maintenance and quality monitoring: Evaluates quality control to assess accuracy, reproducibility and validity of methods. Institutes corrective accuracy when necessary. Documents all necessary corrective actions when QC is not acceptable.
Demonstrates competence in all tests within assigned area.
Demonstrates the ability to maintain effective working relationships with all healthcare team members and customers and helps create a working environment that results in high productivity and morale.
Follows the laboratory's procedures for specimen collection, handling and processing, test analysis, reporting and maintaining records of patient test results.
Adheres to the laboratory's quality control policies, documents all quality control activities, instrument and procedural calibrations and maintenance performed.
Manages multiple priorities and coordinates general workflow to complete tasks in a timely and effective manner.
Qualifications - Minimum
Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year College or university, certification from a nationally recognized agency such as ASCP.

Rotating weekends and holidays
