The Nursing Care Assistant functions as a member of the patient care team by caring for patients and providing support services under the direction of the Registered Nurse. As a member of the healthcare team, the Nursing Care Assistant will employ interpersonal and teamwork skills.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Observes and reports to the appropriate person the general physical and mental condition of patients, signs, and symptoms which may be indicative of change. Directs patient/family issues to the RN.
Completes data collection and contributes information to update care plans.
Performs skills and utilizes equipment which have been taught by a diversified health occupational instructor and validated by SRMC preceptor.
Provides patient care by assisting patients with comfort measures, activities of daily living, and procedures as directed by the Registered Nurse.
Documents task that RN assistant herself/himself performed and patient response to these tasks.
Documents functional levels of patients in areas of feeding, transferring, and bed mobility.
Demonstrates awareness and sensitivity to patient/SO rights as identified within the institution.
Responsible for maintaining confidentiality of patient records.
Functions with an awareness and application of safety issues as identified within the institution. Reports any violations of safety policy.
Performs efficiently in emergency patient situations following established protocols, remaining calm, informing appropriate person.
Participates in unit/divisional Professional Clinical Practice.
Seeks validation of knowledge base, skill level, and decision making as necessary and assertively seeks guidance in areas of question. Provides age specific patient care based on the unit scope of services.
Provides continued data for the patient to stay focused on weekly goals and Preforms proper transfer techniques to enhance maximum function of the patient.
Functions as a liaison between the Registered Nurse and patient identifying patient educational needs to create independence at home.
Qualifications - Minimum
Successful completion of the state of Ohio Test for Nurse Assistant.
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Hours per pay period: 48
Hours: 11:00am to 11:00pm
