Under a Standard Care Agreement with a Collaborating Physician, the Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) provides acute and episodic medical care, manages chronic diseases using evidence based medicine guidelines, prescribes medications, conducts health assessments and health, wellness and disease state education to patients. Awareness of and compliance with the Corporate Responsibility Program, which includes executing duties in accordance with all policies and regulations affecting one's job; and reporting all concerns or violations of medical center policies, procedures, and governmental regulations.
Diagnoses, treats and provides advanced practice nursing services to Mercy Health Physicians (MHP) patients at the Medical Practice. Participates on an equitable and rotating on-call schedule as assigned.
Prepares and maintains proper medical records using the electronic medical record when applicable and such other reports as may be required by Mercy Health Physicians. Works with Mercy coding to comply with coding and billing requirements.
Complies with and participates in quality improvement and utilization review programs of MHP and assists MHP in setting operational policies and procedures for the Medical Practice. Collaborates with other MHP practice employees or hospital-based service line leaders to maximize care efficiency and patient throughput.
Provides in-service training, continuing nursing education, and staff development programs for Providers and staff at the Medical Practice. Assists MHP on a daily basis in the administration and management of the Medical Practice, helping to supervise professional and nonprofessional staff.
Maintains all required and appropriate collaborative physician and standard care agreements as required by the State of Ohio, and any respective governing board(s). Maintains BLS certification annually. Maintains current Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification if applicable, for working inpatient/department settings.
Collaborates with marketing to establish and implement promotional activities for MHP and assists with recruiting other Providers for MHP and/or the Medical Practice.
Qualifications - Minimum
Required Minimum Education:
Graduate Degree (Masters)
Required: Current Certified Nurse Practitioner license in Ohio, RN, Prescriptive authority or eligibility to obtain prescriptive authority. Current BLS Certification.
Dependent on specific position; 1 - 3 yrs.
Ability to learn and be proficient with EMR.
Three to five years of Acute Care, Medical Surgical Nursing and/or physician practice experience preferred.
Will be contractually employed full time to provide professional medical behavioral health services.
Will provide inpatient and nursing home coverage including diagnosing, treating and providing medical services to Mercy patients.
Services will be in accordance with generally accepted medical practice as appropriate for an advanced practice nurse within his/her scope of practice in accord with the Ohio Board of Nursing (“OBN”) guidelines and requirements.
Will have an unrestricted nursing license in Ohio; (b) an unrestricted APRN license in Ohio; (c) an unrestricted Drug Enforcement Agency (“DEA”) registration.
Will be available for treatment and diagnosis of patients during evening, weekend and holiday periods prn.
