Job Summary

The Central Core Technician assists the Nursing Staff in the Operating Room with management of sterile insturments and supplies and gathers the necessary supplies to perform each procedure.

Core duties: Performs defibrillator testing and crash cart maintenance, refridgerator temperature recording on a daily basis. Pulls supplies for current days' cases and those for the following day utilizing the printed surgical schedule. Demonstrates knowledge of location of supplies in the core, how to locate extra supplies needed for specific cases; is aware of daily schedule and can prioritize tasks. Demonstrates knowledge of ordering process, anticipates case needs and procures supplies in a timely manner.

Assists in maintaining inventory control by working closely with the Inventory Control Coordinator. Checks stock inventory levels and restocks as necessary. Acts as liason between Central Supply and the Operating Room. Maintains a functional knowledge of equipment and instruments and is familiar with their location; acts as a resource for associates.

Interpersonal skills: Communicates pertinent case information with RN. Demonstrates ability to perform duties with minimal supervision and refers situations beyond job scope to specialty team leader and the OR manager. Exhibits dependability, coordinates and plans responsibilities efficiently, uses tact, sound judgement and professional attitude at all times when relating to patients, families, and coworkers.

Patient care assistance: Assists with positioning, moving, and lifting patients under the direction of the OR patient care team. Assists the surgical team wtih room turnover/termination. Assists nursing staff in OR suites as requested, holds limbs during ortho preps.

Miscellaneous: Protects patient rights of confidentiality and privacy at all times. Demonstrates knowledge of role in emergency situations. Attends 100% of mandatory meetings, in-services, and continuing education and participates in committees as opportunities occur. Promotes unity, collegiality, and change in the nursing unit by promoting supportive behavior and displaying a positive attitude. Promotes and follows the written hospital policies and procedures and standards. Participates in performance improvement projects of nursing unit as assigned by the Nurse Manager. Maintains the nursing station and unit in a neat, organized manner. Keeps self abreast of changes within the hospital and the nursing unit by reading policies, procedures, memos, communication book and attending required number of unit meetings.

M-F...no holidays/no weekends

6am-2pm
