The Lactation Consultant is responsible for the assessment of the breastfeeding couplet and patient education to support the breastfeeding family.
Assist breastfeeding mother/baby couplet to assess proper position, latch, and suck during the course of a feeding.
Instruct the mother to recognize baby's hunger cues.
Conduct the Breastfeeding Follow-up clinic
Teach monthly breastfeeding classes to the community.
Provide Breast pump rentals to the community.
Provide out-patient consultation services to mothers experiencing difficulties following discharge.
Perform and document breastfeeding consults with mothers via the telephone.
Qualifications - Minimum
Current IBCLC (International Board-Certified Lactation Consultant) certification.
