The patient escorts are responsible for transporting patients in an efficient, safe, and courteous manner.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Transportation of in-house patients to/from Radiology, Physical Therapy, Recovery Room, 718 Building, Surgery, Cardiac Cath Lab, Vascular Lab, Same Day Surgery, discharges and other transports as directed by the dispatcher.
Types of transfers and other duties are as follows:
Transfer patients between units
Assist with bed scale weights
Assist with lifting and positioning patients
Assist with Hoyer lift
Transport expired patients to the morgue
Treat patients, family and visitors in a respectful and courteous manner. Follow the ABC's of St. Rita's.
Transport patients in a safe and efficient manner utilizing the following: Proper mode of transportation, Proper technique in moving patients, Care not to dislodge IVs, tubes, etc. Proper adjustment of O2 flow rate and safe movement of O2 cylinders, Observation of patients during transport.
Observe special precautions when transporting Physical Therapy patients.
Communicate with the dispatcher, sending, and receiving departments.
Return equipment to storage locations when assignment is completed.
Report unsafe equipment.
Understand proper use and safety of O2. Changes O2 regulators on cylinders. Follow Infection Control Policies.
Demonstrate understanding of the hospital fire, safety, and hazardous materials policies.
Assist with Disaster Codes as directed.
Attend JCAHO required in-services yearly, and maintain current CPR certification. Identify and report equipment malfunctions.
Responsible for keeping track of all department equipment.
Qualifications - Minimum
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Additional training in Physical Therapy techniques for patient transfers is required.
Hours per pay period: 40
Rotating weekends and holidays.
