Serves as a clinical supervisor, coordinator and director of daily on-site clinical activities occurring departmentally (nursing, ancillary, and support staff). Serves as the liaison between the Nursing staff and all customer groups associated with the Department and or services provided by Nursing. The Nursing Practice of this position is congruent with evidence-based practice.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Personnel Management Duties:
Manages the selection of staff for the assigned areas during evening and night shifts, as well as in the absence of the RN Clinical Leader.
Provides leadership and direction in accordance with organizational and developmental goals and objectives as outlined by the RN Clinical Leader.
Gathers information for evaluations for current, new staff prior to completion of the probationary period and facilitates exit evaluations with Human Resources for staff members who have resigned.
Counsels employees and, assists as necessary, takes appropriate disciplinary action up to written warning. Collaborates with RN Clinical Leader for advanced disciplinary action.
Assists and coordinated evening and night shift orientations of new personnel.
Ensures continuity of care based on clinical nursing needs of patients (age, diagnosis, acuity, individualized needs) and proper utilization of staff.
Evaluates patient care through assessment, planning, intervention, evaluation, written documentation, observation, and comparison to established, standards.
Demonstrates knowledge of management and nursing theory.
Serves as clinical resource person and assists nursing personnel in assessing patient/family status.
Serves as clinical resource person for all student activities on nursing unit during evening and night shifts.
Demonstrates appropriate delegation skill in management of assigned units.
Provides for professional growth and development of nursing staff through identification of needs, sponsoring training programs, encouraging education (formal and continuing) efforts, and evaluation of same.
Maintains education manuals of nursing personnel in accordance with governing body requirements.
Coordinates attendance at in-service, orientation, and practice of energy procedures, i.e. CPR, infection control, safety, and disaster plans.
Ensures care givers are competent in their ability to interpret information in terms of patient needs, knowledge of growth and development, patient, and teaching.
Prepares staff and unit for surveys by CARF, JCAHO, Ohio Dept of Health, and other governing bodies. Is knowledgeable of standards and evaluates compliance through patient care monitoring activities.
Attends mandatory in-service, and meets continuing education re-licensure requirements applicable to position
Seeks opportunities for educational improvement through attendance at in-service, obtaining certifications and/or advancing degree status.
Promotes open communication throughout the Medical Center. Plans and conducts at least 12 unit meetings per year.
Communicates with patient/ family and appropriate health care professionals regarding patient's plan of care.
Provides regular and timely feedback to RN Clinical Leader.
Seeks to improve the practice of nursing within the organization through participation on clinical practice teams. Encourages staff participation and provides support to staff, peers, and clinical practice leadership.
Provides input in formulating patient care protocols and standards for the practice of nursing.
Collaborates with RN Clinical Leader to establish annual PI Plan. Implements and monitors plan with participation from staff. Reports progress to RN Clinical Leader at regular intervals.
Utilizes the PDCA model as a basis for all improvement efforts.
Participates in budget process (operational and capital). Provides input from staff and physicians to RN Clinical Leader regarding budget needs.
Monitors, evaluates and maintains awareness of utilization of resources.
Plans, develops and maintains staffing patterns for the patient care unit to ensure meeting patient needs. Makes appropriate adjustments in staffing patterns to address acuity and age specific needs.
Demonstrates awareness and sensitivity to patient rights, as identified within the institution.
Ensures patients are aware of their rights and responsibilities and how to get assistance to resolve concerns.
Provides ongoing education to staff to ensure understanding of patient rights and compliance with organizational policies
Collaborate with support services to provide a safe, clean, and secure environment for patients, visitors, and employees.
Functions with an awareness and application of safety issues as identified within the institution.
Provides leadership in emergency situations. Follows established protocols, remains calm, informs appropriate person(s), and documents events.
Maintains patient/staff confidentiality.
Demonstrates an awareness of self-responsibility and accountability for own professional practice.
Recognizes self as a role model for staff.
Demonstrates awareness of legal issues in all aspects of patient care and unit function.
Participates in development and attainment of unit, department, and organizational goals.

Participates in nursing research activities as requested (new forms of care delivery, staffing pattern, quality assessment and improvement).
Supports administrative decisions in communication with staff and physicians
Coordinates activities with other patient care units
Participates as a hospital representative in community activities to promote Rehab/TCU services

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
Current RN licensure in the State of Ohio.
Certification in area of responsibility is desired, but not required.
Education and/or Experience
Education: Bachelors (BSN)
Years of Experience: 3-5
Previous nursing supervision/management preferred
ACLS and OCN required
