SUMMARY OF JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
The RN works with his/her team partner(s), using the nursing process to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate direct patient care. The RN serves as a clinical expert and assumes a leadership role on the Patient Care Team. As leader of the team, the RN is responsible for integrating care delivery among team members and directing the team toward the common goal of improved patient outcomes and customer satisfaction.
The RN performs a variety of basic age-specific duties in providing comprehensive patient care. All clinical care is done under the direction of the RN who determines appropriate tasks for delegation. Members of the Patient Care Team are responsible for making observations as directed by the RN and reporting deviations to the Personal in charge.
Qualifications - Minimum
Graduate from accredited School of Nursing.
BSN required – or must obtain within 5 years of hire
Current RN license in State of Ohio.
2 Years RN experience preferred

PRINCIPAL JOB ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Applies the nursing process in providing patient care.
Performs comprehensive physical/psychosocial assessment/evaluation of patients/family/ significant other.
Assesses data and interprets the appropriate information needed to identify each patient’s requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs.
Develops and implements patient care plans.
Evaluates and revises care plans in consultation with physicians and multidisciplinary team members to achieve optimal patient outcomes.
Assesses patient’s responses and reports adverse reactions and or other pertinent information to healthcare team and physician.
Makes frequent and purposeful rounds to monitor patient responses, changes in condition and patient needs.
Intervenes as appropriate.
Prioritizes, plans, implements and evaluates direct patient care including physical, psychosocial and age-specific care of the patient/family.
Demonstrates competency in providing age appropriate care to defined patient population based on unit/area’s scope of service.
Directs and delegates patient care activities to appropriate skill level of staff.
Coordinates appropriate aspects of plan of care including discharge planning and case management.
Attends and participates in team meetings.
Attends discharging planning meetings.
Utilizes clinical path in coordinating patient care.
Develops, implements and evaluates teaching plans/protocols for patient/family/significant other.
Assesses readiness to learn.
Uses teaching tools to implement and support teaching plan.
Evaluates and revises teaching plan based on patient/family needs.
Performs medical/surgical treatments accurately and according to procedures.
Administers medications and IV therapy.
Prepares IV admixtures.
Performs ECG and phlebotomy as appropriate.
Initiate emergency procedures when necessary.
Adheres to policies and procedures regarding infection control.
Transcribes and implements physician orders accurately.
Documents patient information utilizing guidelines for charting by standards.
Anticipates patient/family needs and responds in a timely manner to requests.
Communicates effectively with healthcare team, ancillary services and community agencies to coordinate delivery of patient care.
Utilizes telephone courtesy.
Initiates and follows through with appropriate nursing actions.
Provides friendly assistance to patients, families and visitors.
Functions as a patient advocate.
Acts as a liaison and support person to the patient/family.
Demonstrates professional accountability, growth and development.
Attends inservices and continuing education programs as evidenced by documentation.
Maintains professional credentials and state licensure.
Serves on unit/hospital committees.
Participates in Performance Improvement activities.
Contributes to the quality of patient care by following unit, organizational and professional standards.
Participates in orientation and development of students and new employees.
Has knowledge of community agencies, nursing homes, government/state regulations and hospital policies and procedures.
Demonstrates organizational and critical thinking skills in management of patients.
Demonstrates appropriate interpersonal skills with patients, families and healthcare teams.
Directs the clinical care of patient under assigned care.
Performs computer order entry functions.
Follows protocol and provides appropriate care to patients in seclusion/restraints.
Works overtime as needed
