Responsible for preparing tissue specimens obtained from surgical procedures or autopsies by fixing, dehydrating, paraphrasing, embedding, cutting and staining for microscopic examination and analysis by the pathologist on a timely basis. Processes and stains cytology specimens and assists in special procedures as needed. Monitors stains with control slides as well as maintenance on all equipment within the Histology section of the laboratory.
Qualifications - Minimum
Is a graduate of an accredited histotechnology program with HT (ASCP) certification. Or has 60 semester hours of academic credit AND one year of experience with HT(ASCP) certification Service oriented attitude to relate and communicate effectively with co-workers, patients, families and medical staff.
Intermediate computer skills required.
Ability and willingness to learn multiple software applications.
Organizational skills needed to work efficiently and produce results in expected time frames.
Works with potential exposure to infectious diseases such as Hepatitis or AIDS, caustic agents, needle punctures and other hazards; intermittent exposure to odors or fumes; works in ventilated and well lighted areas.
