Job Summary

BASIC PURPOSE: Under supervision of the nurse manager, is responsible for managing the communications systems, data input, physician order processing and a variety of other clerical duties which contribute to providing quality patient care.  Serves as a liaison between the patient (family and visitors), the physicians, the nursing staff and ancillary departments.

EDUCATION, SPECIALIZED AND/OR  TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS:

Education: GED or High School Diploma required.

Experience: Healthcare experience preferred.  Computer/typing experience desirable.

Specialized knowledge and Skills:

  1. Computer skills commensurate with job duties.
  2. Interpersonal skills necessary in order to effectively communicate with and lead a diverse variety of individuals and relate to all levels of personnel/discipline.
  3. Provides indirect patient care in the maternity setting, consistent with the unit’s standards of care.
  4. Meets the communication needs of the patient/family, departmental staff and medical staff.
  5. Demonstrates basic computer knowledge
  6. Prepares and compiles records in the Maternity Department for discharged patients and new admissions.
  7. Obtains appropriate nursing staff to assist patient/physician in the care of the patient.
  8. Logs all patients in the log books and in computer upon admission, delivery, transfer, or discharge.

Shift and Job Schedule

Hours: Full-Time, 36 hours weekly

Shift: Nights, 7:00pm - 7:30am
